Where's the spirit of Cricket ...??

The spirit of cricket is almost diminishing in the hearts of cricket lovers from all over the world after the 2011 WC. Although cricket lovers stand their loyalty to the team they support. But that support is mainly dominated by the iconic players from the team.

Retirement of Players

Speaking of retirements... I read a banner by a fan in the Mumbai Indians Vs RCB match last night

"Sachin is my God, Cricket is my world
When sachin retires
I am ready to leave my world
But worship the God"

This is the case we will find soon in Indian cricket. And Sri Lankan, Pakistani, South African cricket are just the same. When Sangakara, Mahela, Dilshan, Samaraweera walks out the team the spirit from the Sri Lankan cricket fans will also walk out. The same will happen with Pakistan when Afridi and Younis steps down.

This has already happen in the past, in West Indies, when the iconic players made their way out. Cricket went down from then onwards they could never recover. Even in Australia when the big guns Langer, Warne, Hayden, Martin and Gilchrist left. The consequences were the same.

The biggest problem is that we don't enjoy watching cricket because playing mostly is built with slog sweeps and heaves. The exquisite cover drives, the backfoot punch, the delicate glance are only seen by players who are about to leave. And the young players will need time to get there. The in between time is going to be a blackout for cricket.

The downfall of Australia

Cricket seems to have lost a lots of interest with the mighty Australia crumbling down. Whatever we may argue but the Australian of 2003 - 2007 was the best we have ever seen. But now they have become so vulnerable. And defeating them doesn't give the satisfaction. I don't mean that Australian will be back strong but i believe that it will take some time.

The sense of miss and sense of over

As far as Sri Lankan, Pakistan, England, RSA are concerned they feel a sense of let down. With Australia out of the equation this time each tean had a fighting chance to the cup but all missed it. I don't know what are playing in the minds of players but definitely fans hav lost the booming cricket spirit. And as far as India is concerned, they got what they needed. They don't want cricket anymore. It's all over with them.


Cricket is about to serve a blackout. To avoid this it should better produce some heroes.

Considering these facts i believe for my generation the feel of cricket will go down. Its the next set of fans will have to take over by watching the young teams perform, enjoy and hero worship them just as we did in our childhood with Sachin, Sanga, Gilly and others....
